12 STONE 4

From the beginning of the Industrial Revolution and Arkwright's theft of the idea for the water loom, through the Capitalist Utopian dreams of the 1960's, to 1980's greed and Monetarist individualism.

First full length upload of one version of the 16mm film.

'12 STONE 4' is a history of men and revolution in England.

It is a comedy.

Made by Christopher Saunders and Brendan Byrne in the 1980's.

Using hybrid film techniques and borrowing from Situationist détournement, the film looks at the lack of progress in what Chris Saunders was later to term "the new dark ages".

Enclosure

Asking most people about the socio/economic system they live in, Capitalism, is often very much like asking a goldfish about water.

This blog might go some way towards correcting this. The first video looks at what needs to happen to create the conditions necessary for Capitalism as we know it, to begin to function. The next video (coming quite soon) will expand on the changes in consciousness in all of us which is vital to allow Capitalism to function.

Future videos will look at the history of opposition, both academic and as popular movements, to the concept and the results of Capitalism. We will also look at the contemporary plurality of Capitalisms (there's more than one) and the internal contradictions which resulted in it's apparent death in 2007.

The site will also give links to other work which might help you gain a better understanding, though we might not entirely agree with all of the content within all of the links. There are just a few links for now but we hope to expand on this and tidy it up in the near future.

What Is Capitalism? Episode 1 - Enclosure

Capitalism isn't what you think it is. In this episode we look at some of the things which had to be put in place before Capitalism, as we know it, could become possible.

With a basic understanding of how Capitalism works we don't need so many Conspiracy Theories (that's not to say that all Conspiracy Theories are wrong). The ways in which power exploits people is often hidden in plain sight.

This video was made over a 5 hour period. This includes an hour to make the camera mount for the electric bicycle's handlebars. The bike then acted as the tripod for all the shots to camera.
The blazer is made from the last bail of MCC (Marylebone Cricket Club, based at Lord's Cricket Ground) blazer material, as discovered by Vivienne Westwood (thanks Jason). It is therefore a Lords blazer and that's why it's worn in this context.

More videos coming soon along with links to other videos and texts.
